Advanced Quantum and Nanophotonic Systems

О программе

The Faculty of Physics of ITMO University invites you to join a new Master’s program “Advanced quantum and nanophotonic systems”. Quantum and nanophotonic systems are the foundation of many breakthrough technologies: quantum computers, metamaterials, targeted drug delivery, and the creation of new multifunctional nanostructures.

In this program, you will learn from world-class physicists that publish papers in high-ranking international journals. Moreover, you will have every opportunity to publish your research results in these journals along with your senior colleagues.
The Faculty of Physics actively collaborates with foreign scientific colleagues, which means you will be able to do an internship in such universities as University of Iceland, University of Lorraine, University of Exeter, University of Sheffield, and others.

In this program, students can choose the courses they find interesting and important in different areas of physics (plus chemistry, biology and even programming) and thus create their own unique set of professional skills.
With this education, you can become not only an experimental or theoretical physicist, but also an interdisciplinary researcher working at the intersection of physics, chemistry, and biology, and even work with computational methods and machine learning.

There are four educational tracks within this program:
●       Quantum materials – theoretical methods for modeling the materials where many-particle quantum correlations qualitatively change the properties of a system.
●       Nanophotonics and Metamaterials – in this track, students will study analytical, numerical and experimental methods of nanooptics at an advanced level.
●       Hybrid materials – this track focuses on interdisciplinary research, which makes it perfect for students with different backgrounds (physics, chemistry, materials science, biology, etc) wishing to carry out research at the intersection of disciplines.
●       Computer modeling of quantum and nanophotonic systems – students will study computational methods for nanophotonics and condensed-matter physics, which are areas of active research, both fundamental and applied.
